A sketch of the Lake in the 1840's
The image below is adapted from a photocopy of a victorian sketch of the lake drawn May 4th 1844, Artist unknown, probably shortly after the lake was completed.
A recent view of the cottage, stylized in Photoshop, the barge board on the gable end has been replaced, the roof is no longer thatched and the wing has been raised by a new storey at first floor. Also the canopy around the front and left side has gone! Also I think the original structure had a rendered wall finish
